The Smart Vacuum Bot app is a cross-platform mobile and tablet application designed to help users control and monitor their robot vacuum seamlessly. The project focuses on creating an intuitive dashboard, real-time cleaning visualization, scheduling, device status insights, and manual control mode using the robot’s built-in camera.

This design aims to balance clarity, functionality, and aesthetics, ensuring users can manage their cleaning routine effortlessly.

This project started with a clear goal: to build a functional, worker-friendly control app for a factory vacuum robot. Our team of two - myself handling UI/visual design and a developer responsible for the core UX structure and development worked closely to create the application from scratch. While the developer designed the primary UX flow, I contributed to UX refinements by improving interactions, simplifying layouts, and aligning the interface with real worker behaviors. My main focus was translating the UX framework into a clean, intuitive, industrial-grade UI designed specifically for tablet use.

Goal

The core goal of the project was to create an interface that both literate and semi-literate factory workers could easily understand and use.

Key Features

Dashboard Monitoring

  • Displays battery level, water level, current cleaning mode, robot performance/stats, estimated time remaining.

  • Color‑coded status indicators to show if something needs attention (e.g., low battery, low water).

  • Big, clear widgets/cards so workers/supervisors can glance and know status quickly.

Scheduling

  • Shift‑based scheduling: Morning, Afternoon, Night. Room/zone selection, mode selection.

  • “Set & forget” logic for factory workflows, so once schedule is defined, minimal input is required.

Cleaning Modes

  • Supports multiple modes: Auto cleaning, Spot cleaning, Edge cleaning, Custom path.

  • Quick mode selection UI so users can switch cleaning mode with minimal steps.

Manual Control / Camera Feed

  • Manual joystick‑type control interface for driving or inspecting robot via built‑in camera.

  • Clear action buttons and warning/highlight indicators (e.g., obstacles, alerts) so worker can intervene when needed.

Visual Design

The tablet UI for the Smart Vacuum Bot features a clean, industrial-ready design with a three-column layout that organizes navigation, real-time camera feed, and key robot metrics for easy monitoring. Spacious grids, consistent card patterns, and high-contrast sections ensure quick readability, while large touch targets and bold typography make it usable even with gloves. Color-coded indicators for battery, water level, and robot status provide instant recognition of critical information, creating an intuitive interface that balances clarity, efficiency, and functional control.

Result

The Smart Vacuum Bot tablet app helps workers monitor and control robots efficiently with a clear three-column layout, real-time camera feed, and quick access to cleaning modes and schedules. It simplifies decision-making, reduces time spent managing tasks, and requires minimal training, while high-contrast visuals and color-coded indicators ensure critical information like battery and water levels is immediately understood.
